The District provides economic development services to Columbus and area communities in Boone, Colfax, Nance and Platte Counties, and the City of Newman Grove in Madison County. Our core mission is the support of companies that provide products, services, information and knowledge outside of our service area and return capital (revenues) back to the communities.
Our services are grounded in three basic economic development principles.
RECRUITMENT OF NEW COMPANIES
We can submit formal proposals addressing company requirements for a new location. We submit approximately 15 formal proposals each year to companies looking to locate in or near Columbus. We also maintain a current inventory of buildings and sites throughout the District.
RETENTION AND EXPANSION OF EXISTING COMPANIES
We regularly meet with existing companies to identify needs and plans for growth. We partner with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Nebraska Public Power District, and Columbus entities to provide retention services to local companies.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO NEW AND GROWING COMPANIES
Growing companies often need specialized information to enhance sales and/or bring new products to market. We network with several outside public and private organizations to acquire information on request. Whether an entrepreneur just starting a new business or a company with several hundred employees, we take pride in meeting their growing business needs.
