Tailrace Park

Tailrace Park Columbus NE

Tailrace Park

3.5 miles east of Columbus on 8th Street and then 1.5 miles south. Tailrace Park is located at the confluence of the District canal system and the Platte River.

Size

9.5 acres situated at the Loup Tailrace and Platte River

Recreation Uses

Popular for relaxed family fun with children’s playground and picnic area. Fishing is quite popular along the entire canal except where posted.

Camping

A limited number of primitive camping sites are available during the summer at no charge. Entry via foot traffic only, no motor vehicle access.

Not available.

Trails

No trails are available.

Other Services

Playground area and views of the water flow over the Tailrace weir. Swimming is not permitted due to the unsafe rapid water in the tailrace.

Loup Parks Information Sheet

Loup Power District owns, operates and maintains five parks containing 77 acres of land and 1,100 acres of water. These facilities are open to the public from May 1 to November 1 (weather permitting).

Camping

Electrical hook-ups and primitive camping available during the summer at no charge.

Camping Reservations

No reservations accepted.
Limit of seven days per month
(30-day period) in Loup Park system.

Regulations
  • There are no dump stations
    or direct water hookups.
  • There are no lifeguards on duty.
  • All facilities are alcohol free.
  • All vehicles and campers must be properly licensed.
