Loup Power District has recognized Keith Shonka for 35 years of service to Loup Power District.
Shonka joined Loup in 1989 as Second Assistant Plant Operator at the Columbus Powerhouse. He was promoted to First Assistant Plant Operator in 1990 and Plant Operator in 1991. He transferred to Meter Relay and Equipment Technician I in the Meter and Maintenance Department at the Columbus Service Center in 1994. He was promoted to Meter Relay and Equipment Technician Senior in 2019.
Shonka is on the team that is responsible for installation and maintenance of substation power equipment. The team’s duties include operating equipment that switches electric power between substations and transmission lines, relay maintenance and testing, and designing substation control wiring.
Shonka is a native of Surprise and a graduate of David City Aquinas High School. He holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Technology from Southeast Community College in Milford.
Shonka and his wife, Karen, are the parents of four children: Jacob, Katie, Nicolas, and Benjamin. They have six grandchildren.
