Watch for fluctuating water levels in Loup River

December 2, 2024

Loup Power District wants to remind the public that water levels may fluctuate along the Loup River from the Genoa Headworks to Columbus and along the Platte River from Columbus to Schuyler.

Hunters with blinds along the rivers and others using the river for fishing, camping, or recreation should be on the lookout for changing water levels and take measures to ensure they are not stranded away from dry ground.

Changes in diversion of the Loup River at the Genoa Headworks are necessary during the fall and winter to reduce ice and slush in the Loup Canal.
